I cannot believe that November is over and that we have one more month before the new year begins. Time flies. For the month of November, I wanted to share what has been happening to me.
Blog Launch
I am happy to announce that I launch my blog called ‘Develop Bit’ in November 2022.
Community Work
- Met online to shadow a member of the LibreOffice Community. Shadowed in how to triage bugs and use different tips and techniques to do so.
- Participate in Call for Proposal Review Committee Board for Women Who Code. Women Who Code Connect 2023 will be held Thursday, March 2, 2023. So far I have reviewed 17 plus proposals for the event.
- Participated in the Girl Develop IT Hackathon as a mentor. The GDI hackathon was a great experience in how different teams were able to come up with an idea and implement it within a certain time frame.
Meetups/Events
Attended Women Who Code -Austin which was led by CC Yang. This event was about resumes and LinkedIn. The event had a couple of panelists who were technical recruiters and hiring managers who gave us tips and tricks on how to improve our resume and LinkedIn. Some takeaways I learned:
- Don’t have over a four-page resume. Try to condense it down to one or two pages
- Take a professional photo for LinkedIn.
- Check for grammar and spelling
- Write a great summary
1Million Cups
I had the opportunity to attend 1MillionCups this month. It was such an amazing opportunity to attend to understand more about other businesses and how they operate. It was inspiring in a way to give feedback on how to move forward in your business and help along the way.
Timmy Awards
Another opportunity was that I attended the Timmy Awards. It was such a great opportunity to see how technology comes through.
Book Club
Attended Women Who Code – Austin Book Club. We discuss chapters 10 & 11 last month from the book Clean Code.
Speaking
- This month, I had the opportunity to speak at Women Who Code Austin on a section about accessibility. It was a brief overview of accessibility and things I learned about accessibility from a visual perspective.
- I did a podcast through Women Who Code. The topic was called: “Tech Career Progression, From Start to Transition, and Beyond”. Will keep you posted on when it will be launched.
